Top 5 Publishers

Post by SanAndreasX on Wed May 07, 2014 1:16 pm

I see we've done a developers thread at sometime in the past, but how about a Top 5 Publishers thread?

In this one, you're more than welcome to use past glories rather than sticking with strictly contemporary games. Which company's games have done the best for you over your gaming lifetime, even if they seem to have hit a slump in the past year or two?

1. Nintendo. I have a soft spot for Zelda in particular, but I love all of their franchises. And since they've done a bit of everything, I could have a library of nothing but Nintendo and still have pretty much every genre covered generously. Except football, maybe.

2. Square Enix: Final Fantasy VII and Dragon Quest VIII are two of my three favorite games of all time. Bravely Default and FFXIV are promising signs that they're coming to their senses and returning to what they do the best.

3. Namco: They were the kings of the arcade in my younger years, and they've been my favorite third party publisher for the past two years since they're providing the RPGs I want (Ni no Kuni, Tales series) that Square Enix dropped the ball on.

4. Sega: Their games have always been good, and they made a lot of my favorite games on PS3 like Valkyria Chronicles. I just wish so many of their games weren't permanently stuck in Japan.

5. Capcom: If you set aside their franchise-milking and their corporate wankery with Mega Man - which honestly aren't things that every other publisher isn't guilty of these days - they've got a pretty good output, like Resident Evil, SF, Breath of Fire, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, and Devil May Cry.

1. Nintendo- San summed it best, I could have a library of nothing but Nintendo published games and it'll fill nearly all my gaming needs

2. Sony- Doesn't quite have the epic backlog Nintendo does, but they do have the impressive variety Nintendo does. While not quite up there in quality, I'd say they even have a little more variety thanks to having shooters and more mature games Ninty avoids like The Last of Us

3. Sega- While I love the Genesis most out of their systems and Sonic's my favorite series from them, I think it's the Dreamcast that gives them this spot. Skies of Arcadia's such a classic and they experimented with shit no one would ever attempt like Jet Set Radio and Typing of the Dead.

4. Microsoft- Yeah, they suck now, but Halo, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect 1 are all more than enough to get them on here. Gears of War and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts are nice extras as well.

5. Lucasarts- They did publish the greatest game ever

You're welcome to regard or disregard said cockdickery as you see fit. Smile
