E3 2014 Discussion
New thread for the actual event. Feel free to hop in the chat during the day and then give some impressions in here of each conference so people who weren't there live know your thoughts.

Re: E3 2014 Discussion
Microsoft conference initial thoughts: Pretty good for once. Finally there was some actual video games at their conference instead of rappers, cars and Kinect which is mindblowing. The exclusive Platinum game has me interested but it's difficult to take any Xbox exclusive seriously seeing as they usually end up multiplat or on the PC, like DeadRising 3.
Re: E3 2014 Discussion
I was definitely impressed. They really did do wall-to-wall games. I wish every conference was that lean and tightly paced.
I thought they announced some cool exclusives too. Scaleform was certainly the most intriguing. I also like that Ori and the Blind Forest (not sure if this was exclusive). The Master Chief collection is cool too if expected. Sunset Overdrive continues to look amazing.
On the non-exclusive front, I found myself excited to see Tomb Raider even though I was disappointed with the last one. Just been a fan too long to let that get me down too much and I love Lara. I don't know if they will go in the direction I want, but I am going to hope they do. The bear is a good sign. More animals/less human enemies please. Glad the bow is back. Lara looked great in a hoodie too!
Also after the conference, they showed Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris which looked amazing. Four player co-op this time. Looked like GoL as far as gameplay though. Very excited for that.

Re: E3 2014 Discussion
Ori and the Blind Forest along with the game that's made by the Limbo guys had me the most interested. The Platinum game is obviously intriguing and disappointing to hear it's exclusive but I'll wait until gameplay is finally shown before getting excited. Sunset Overdrive lacks something for me personally. The movement seems too slow and it looks like it's trying way too hard to be zainy and whacky just to be counter culture against all dem grim dark srs video gaems.
EAs conference was absolutely boring. SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS, IT'S GONNA BE SUPER REAL THIS TIME GUYS SWEAR DOWN HOLY SHIT CHECK THIS ONE CHANGED THING IT'S SO REALISTIC. Mirror's Edge didn't get enough focus and the focus it did get was annoying in the fact the developers started making the series sound much deeper than the original ever was.
I'm pretty sure if you cut the empty buzzword, soulless marketing bullshit out of these conferences they'd be over in a quarter of the time and much less infuriating, it'd be brilliant. That's what I really liked about The Witcher guys. There was no bullshit, they just came into the stage and was like "We made this game, we're going to show you it and explain a few things" then gameplay happened and they were just talking about it instead of pushing it as the next big thing that will revolutionize your entire life.

Re: E3 2014 Discussion
Yeah EA was terrible. I'm not sure why they showed so much prototype footage. Maybe for a game like Mirror's Edge and Battlefront, they didn't want to go a year without acknowledging they were working on it after announcing them last year, but I'm not sure why they'd show Mass Effect or the Criterion game. They aren't trying to sell people a console and need a promise for the future.
I think what little they showed of Mirror's Edge was good. The focus seems on movement and platforming still. They are adding moves to Faith's repertoire. Like that move where she swung around the corner with the pipe. Combat seems to be quicker to make keeping your momentum easier. Obviously not far enough along to really get much else from it though.
Pretty shit conference overall though.

Re: E3 2014 Discussion
I missed all of them except Sony's. I loved the Batman footage the most from Sony's press conference and I'll need a PS4 next year for that and Uncharted 4.

Everything else can go home.
But seriously, Sony's conference was pretty decent. I really didn't see LittleBigPlanet 3 coming so I'm pretty excited for that. The Bloodborne trailer was neat despite how much I usually hate plain CGI trailers but at least it confirmed we're getting a new sweet ass Miyazaki game. No Man's Sky looked incredible. The whole TV shit and comic pleb stuff was incredibly dull and the Uncharted 4 announcement got a "Urgh, really?" reaction instead of any excitement. Was so hoping The Last Guardian was gonna be reannounced right at the end there and instead it's fucking Uncharted again goddamn it.

Nintendo's conference was actually surprisingly good and that's coming from someone who usually fucking hates Ninty conferences. The Yoshi game looked cute which is a series I've never paid attention to, the new Zelda info seems interesting and Hyrule Warriors looks great, the paint game thing actually looked pretty fun. Plus it was easily the most entertaining conference, the opening had me and my mate in tears of laughter.
For the first time I'm not infuriated when people said Ninty had the best E3, infact I might even agree.

@Rainjar you know I love this stuff but it was really good, way better than lasts years presentation. Nintendo wins E3 hands down for me.

I gotta say that Nintendo won E3 for me, too. Zelda Wii U FTW.
Honestly, though, all Nintendo really had to do at this point was show up. I wasn't terribly impressed with much of anything at E3. We got all the expected iterations of EA, Activision, and Ubisoft's annualized franchises and Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III were no-shows. Most of the stuff that interested me came from the niche developers. But that said, Zelda Wii U would have been a megaton announcement for me regardless of what else was going on.

Other than Zelda, the other game that got my attention this E3 was Bloodborne, the PS4 game being made by From Software.

Yeah nothing really impressed me from anyone else, but I really only care about E3 cause of Nintendo. I loved Batman Arkham Knight, No Man's Sky, and Uncharted 4 but I think Nintendo nailed it this year. And yeah Zelda Wii U FTW!

Yeah, I saw that. Nintendo rides to the rescue of yet another game that wouldn't get made otherwise. I wondered what happened to Devil's Third after THQ got the big middle finger.

Cool. We're finally getting Final Fantasy Type-0. And it's going to be on PS4 and Xbox One, no less. Good show, Square Enix.

I'm honestly not sure who won it for me. All three of the console makers focused on games I both wanted to play and see more of. I'm definitely going to making good use of every console I own.

Re: E3 2014 Discussion
I think if I were ranking the conferences, I'd probably say:
1. Nintendo
2. Sony
3. Microsoft
4. Ubisoft
5. EA
Though EA was the only one I thought was bad. Ubi was meh. I really think all of the big 3 did a good job though. They all showed games I'm excited for. I already talked about MS, but I will hit the other two here.
Sony we were in the chat for, but I thought they showed a lot of cool stuff. Anything Naughty Dog gets me ridiculously excited, so even though I was hoping for a more telling trailer, what I got was sweet (I know I'm a little irrational about this, but sometimes it is fun to be that way about things you love). One thing I really wanted from Sony was a big PS4 game for this Fall. I couldn't imagine they'd announce one so late, but LBP3 is it and I am hyped up (edit: this may be cross gen actually, but still a big Sony game for me to play in the Fall). I love animals, so having sack pets or whatever was great. Plus new abilities like wall bouncing and climbing is really awesome. Seems like with the different characters it will be a more interesting co-op experience. And Bloodborne is out of my wheelhouse I'd think but it is definitely a quality big-time exclusive. Liked a lot of the third-party stuff. Batman got me more excited than I thought a Batman was able to at this point. The Far Cry demo blew me away. I loved FC3 and this looks like it turned up with verticality and better traversal and vehicle takedowns. I loved it. Obviously that isn't a Sony game, but it definitely looked great. And there was a lot of other stuff sprinkled in between. I only dock points from their conference for it dragging in the middle. Seemed really badly paced compared to the other two.
Nintendo just really showed a ton of fun games. Zelda while only a tease seems like it will give me my one true wish for the next entry with its big explorable world on land and the graphics/art looked stunning. The Yoshi game looked cooler than I thought. Kirby's Epic Yarn was kind of a letdown for me. Way too simple. Not exactly a Kirby game like I like. Yoshi looks like it really captures the essence of the Yoshi games, but with a unique artstyle (that looks better than Kirby did I think and that looked great). I also thought the Toad game looked neat. I didn't know that was a feature in 3D World, but it looked very cool. Mario Maker, Kirby Rainbow Curse, and even that paint game also looked cool. Loving what I have seen of Hyrule Warriors (Midna!). I'm probably forgetting stuff already, because it was packed. I plan to get a Wii U by my birthday in September and there will be plenty of stuff to play then and in the future. I don't see this conference turning the tide for the system from a sales standpoint, but I know I will be real happy with mine when I get it.

There's an unannounced 3rd character on the box art for Hyrule Warriors
Assuming she's also playable.
Nintendo really killed it for excited for most of the stuff they announced especially bayonetta 2, hyrule warriors, and splatoon. Devil's Third looks amazing too interested to see how that became a Wii U exclusive.
Now that thats out of the way who gonna play myimpossibly hard and frustrating amazing mario maker levels?

Nintendo really went ahead with some new IPs which is cool. That Project Steam isn't up my alley, but I thought Splatoon looked really great.

Just checked out Project S.T.E.A.M.... and WOW. This is going to be a definite day-one purchase for me, if it really is like Valkyria. That was my favorite game of the entire 7th generation, any platform.
