Re: Top Five Tuesday | Favorite Games This Gen So Far | Results are in

1. Mass Effect series- well minus the ending that I still can't seem to get over, this series gave me everything I ever wanted from a video game. If I had to pick a favorite I'd go with 2. I guess.

2. Ni no Kuni- proof that there is nothing wrong with classic jrpgs if done right. The old school mechanics and Studio Ghibli magic make me feel like a kid again.

3. Xenoblade- I waited so long for this damn game and finally playing it was pure bliss. Just such a fun game to play and its impossible to not want to explore every inch of the world.

4. Portal/Portal 2- I'm cheating and putting these ones together. I equally enjoyed both although the second one didn't seem to have as many moments that really made me stop and think about what to do next. The co-op made up for it though, I had a blast playing that with my boyfriend.

5. Uncharted 2- an obvious choice, I enjoyed every second of this game. Not much more to be said about it.

So glad to see so many people include Ni No Kuni. It's a great game, and if you're a J-RPG lover and haven't played it well shame on you.

That's tough.

1. Portal
2. Mass Effect 1 or 2...or 3? In that order.
3. Uncharted 2
4.

...Give me a minute to think this one through.

1. Uncharted 2 - A perfect mix of story, character and outstanding gameplay
2. Mass Effect 2 - I love the structure of ME2. It's more focussed than ME3 and all the better for it.
3. Metal Gear Solid IV - Played it again last year, and it was every bit as good as I remembered.
4. Red Dead Redemption - So much content, and all of it worthwhile. And I loved the setting.
5. Skyrim - It's been over a year since I finished Skyrim, yet I'm really excited to put in even more hours with the DLC. It takes a special game to bring me back after so much time.

Very Honourable Mention:
Shatter - By far my favourite DL title and the best soundtrack of this gen.

Honourable Mentions:
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - One of my all-time-favourites, but as it's a only an update of the original, I kept it out of the top 5.
Burnout Paradise - The first game that I spent significant time playing in multiplayer. I was playing this on-and-off for well over a year
Yakuza 4 - The best game in a series that has quickly become one of my favourites
Assassin's Creed 2 - The high point of AC. There were some gameplay improvements in Brotherhood, but AC2 had the most interesting story and by far the best setting
GTA IV - Not sure how much I'd enjoy GTA IV if I played it now, but I loved it at the time and have plenty of fond memories of cruising around the city

Shatter is fun, but I never really understood why people love it so much. My favorite DL title of this gen is definitely Audiosurf.

@Toomanywires: Yakuza has gotten better and better with each installment, and I'm glad it's turned into a big franchise for Sega. I hope we get Yakuza 5 in the US, which is apparently quite an amazing game and touted by its designers as the Yakuza equivalent of GTA: San Andreas.

@SanAndreasX: Yes! From everything I've heard, Yakuza 5 is the definitive Yakuza game. It'll be a real shame if it's not released outside of Japan.

My favorite downloadable title of this gen was hands down Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light...it was just fun. funfunfun...fun. Shatter isn't even close (but a very fun game none the less)

I haven't played very many downloadable titles, but of the handful that I have played, I've really only enjoyed Costume Quest and The Walking Dead.

Costume Quest is my number 1. I also really enjoyed the inFamous game Festival of Blood, but that feels like a cheap pick. Costume Quest for sure though.

Castle Crashers and Lara Croft are my favorites. Still never finished The Walking Dead. I guess it just isn't my type of game.

Walking Dead takes the spot for me. After it's either Primordia or Mark of the Ninja.

Oh yeah... Walking Dead. I forget that was downloadable too. But you can get it on disc now... so I don't know if that even really counts. Well Shatter is still the bees knees. And as the great Iron Sheik would say-- respect the Legend that is Shatter or go fuck yourselves, you rice crispy dicks.

Side note. Follow Iron Sheik on Twitter. It's fucking hilarious.... and kind of sad.

Oh so we're voting on a favorite DL game now? I'd also say mine was Costume Quest. I thought I had a ton more downloadable games but most of them are just older games in HD or PS1 classics. I was a little surprised :/

Nier might be the most memorable game I played this gen. The music, story and characters were so great. Too bad the gameplay was so bland though. Still, I'm glad to see you mention it.

Results are in. I will be quicker about this next time guys. I apologize. I just reverse score them 5 points for first and so on. Total points in parentheses.

1. Uncharted 2 (35 points)
2. Mass Effect series (33)
3. Metal Gear Solid 4 (24)
4. Fallout 3 (14)
5. Portal (12)

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and Ni No Kuni got 11. 2 of Portal's points were a series vote which I decided to give to Portal 1 since it had more points than 2. So that last spot is up in the air. If I put Portal as a series, It'd be at 4.
