MARIO KART 8 THREAD

Less than a month. I'm more excited for this than I thought i would be it looks pretty amazing. We can set up game nights, etc here

Here's the nintendo direct if you missed it




Another thing i'd like to note if youre on the fence about it. Registering Mario Kart 8 on club Nintendo before July 30th will get you a free code for a digital copy of Pikmin 3, New Super Mario U, Wind Waker HD, or Wii Party U.

Up to 12 players in a race i think theres room for everyone here that owns a Wii U I think and we could schedule a game night in the tournaments thing. Should be a lot of fun.

The roster definitely looks a little lame. I'd get rid of most of the baby characters, both metal characters and as much as I like them, Kay is probably right that all those Koopalings might be overboard. Stuff like Kamek, Boo (I checked and King Boo was in both DD and Wii), Wart, Diddy and some of the other things people suggested on Twitter (like from the Mario rpg games) would make for a much more interesting roster. (Edit: Or just keep all the characters I don't care for since someone probably likes them and just add a bunch more). The roster isn't all that important to me at the end of the day though.

Otherwise it looks awesome. The new gravity thing looks much more interesting than 7's additions (though I still enjoyed the hang-gliding when it was used well). The courses look really cool and they actually made some the classic ones much better than before (Rainbow Road 64 wasn't very good before and looks pretty great now). Some tweaks to items look to make things better on that front too.

I didn't watch the direct, but is it true there are no battle arenas?

Battle mode is still there, be kind of cool to get a group for that too

Also speaking of the roster theres way to many light weights almost twice as many as there are middle weights. The game does look amazing either way but i kind of want a few more characters added to offset that. it would be kind of annoying to get stuck in all kinds of races against all lightweights.

I think that kind of can be avoided but it would involve using mii's and id rather play a lightweight than use a Mii, that said. 7 middle weights is still way too few. They should have 13 of each. That would bring the roster out to 40 which yeah is a bit much, but considering all the characters they can choose from i dont think it would be that hard

See that is what I was asking before. Not if there was a battle mode, but whether there were specific battle arenas. It looks like that trailer just takes place on regular racetracks which seems like a super weird decision to me. Maybe I am wrong though.

It looks like a cool twist on battle mode, but I still want the giant square arenas. Wish they'd have one on some crazy multi storied castle full of all kinds of weird crap.

To me they look like regular tracks kind of edited for battle mode it. it still looks cool but i have no idea if they removed arenas or not. Will have to check that when it comes out

Okay so I'm going to organize the communities/tournaments thingy for all of us to play Mario Kart 8 and organize tomorrows game night/game day, so feel free to join.

Question, in the event you can name the tournaments/communities, what do you want me to call them, The Play Station? That's what I did for the MK7 ones. Also, I'll set up Battle, 150cc with itmes, and 150 no items, I'll add more if people request more stuff. Also, dibs on Rosalina.

New items: Piranha Plant and Boomerang are both fantastic additions to the series. The former is very accessible and useful while the latter is a little tricky to use and you can only do real damage with both if you know how to use them.

Weapons: Blue Shell is still terrible, but at least it usually knocks people in its way too. It helps that you can keep items if it hits you which was especially good when I had a mushroom on me.

Rubberbanding: I'd say they've done a pretty good job with it this time. No one's ever really hitting me with stupid good accuracy, they're just as likely to run into an obstacle when I'm at 3rd place as they are when I'm in 10th. I still say Sonic has better AI, but they did fix my issues with the Wii version.

Rainbow Road: TBH, I've always hated these so when I say it's good, that actually means something. But it would rank low on my list of courses, they're fantastic now.

Also it let me unlock Rosalina before Kay did, so Nintendo is doing a good job of giving me ways to taunt her with crap I have and she wants.

Rosalina was the first character I unlocked and I'm pretty happy with that. I already set up the communities so if anyone wants to play, go ahead.

Courses are really fun, can't pick but I love the 2 Rainbow Roads, the one with the Beanstalk because of the Gusty Garden theme, Mt. Wario, The Airport, Toads Turnpike, Yoshi's Valley, fuck it I'll just say all the Retro levels.

Some of my favorites are Sunshine Airport, Dolphin Shoals, Bone-Dry Ruins, and Mount Wario. Also love the redesigned Tick Tock Clock, they went out of their way adding new tricks to most of the retro courses, yet they never feel like too much. Battle Mode, however, is not good. Don't know what they were thinking designing it this way.

I haven't tried Battle Mode but it's a mess from what I heard on the internet. Don't know why they didn't leave the classic battle mode, would have loved to see Block Fort and Skyscrapper in HD.

Battle mode is okay if you mess with the settings a bit. Set items to frantic mode, and only play on Moo Moo Fields, The dessert course, and Donut Plains. I had a decent time with it that way.
