Watch Dogs Discussion

I think a few of us will be getting this (me, killa and spiddy at least?), so figured it was worthy of a thread. I should be able to try it sometime tomorrow! Very excited!

I'll definitely be firing it up some time after I get home from work tomorrow. A friend invited me to the midnight launch but I cant go because I have work in the morning unfortunately.

I played maybe like an hour. Obviously a lot of teaching you what to do, but I definitely feel the potential. Hopefully there are plenty of missions like the opening one because it was quite cool.

As much as I want to go stealthy, I could see myself getting frustrated and just shooting people as the game goes on. I'm so bad at stealth!

I was hoping my copy would be here when I got home. Nope. Darn you, Amazon! Darn you all to heck! It should be here tomorrow so I hope to be discussing it over the weekend.

I'm having such a blast with this game. The hacking makes for some unique approaches to missions and the core gameplay is really solid. Really love the city. Feels really lively. Lots of unique side missions. Driving isn't the best, but otherwise I think this is great.

Ive been really busy with work and other things so I havent been able to play much at all. But this weekend I will really dig into it. Looking forward to discussing it with you guys soon.

This sucks. I rushed home because tracking said it was delivered but it's not here. So either my wife took the mail with her when she went to work, which I won't know until midnight, or it got jacked. I hate when Amazon uses USPS instead of UPS.

Well, my wife didn't grab the mail before work so I'm guessing I will have to chat with Amazon tomorrow. Or maybe it shows up tomorrow but I doubt it. I live in a very shady area of town. If it has been jacked I'm more concerned that whatever asshole would do something like that now knows I have a PS4. It would suck for them to try and rob me though; my wife and I work opposite hours and I have baseball bats and collapsible batons scattered in hidden, easily accessible places throughout my house. Not to mention my crazy ass one-eyed dog.

Fuck beans I'm pissed.

Watch Dogs just now arrived, finally. It was supposed to be here Thursday morning and arrives Saturday evening. Oh well, I'm glad there was no need to go through customer service.

Well at least it didn't get stolen I suppose. Curious what you will think of this game.

I just finished Act 2. Really digging all the different ways you can get out of trouble and infiltrate places. I try a bunch of different strategies all the time. Will be fun to compare notes on how we each do stuff.

This game would be something I'd want, but I already own too many shooter styled games for the PS4. A lot of times I turn on my system wanting to play it, but never really play anything because I'm not in the mood for a shooter. I feel the same would happen with this game if I got it. Glad you're enjoying it, Trip. If anything I'll wait for a price drop.

I finished the intro and am now doing random Fixer missions. These missions take some getting used to but are pretty fun. The hacking is interesting in how it has random information about people. I haven't noticed whether or not there's a good/evil system so I'm stealing money from everyone. There are many different outfit color choices, but only a handful of styles. It's still neat. (of course the outfit I choose would be called "anarchist") The radio is decent and what I've heard runs the full gamut of Chicago music styles. The city itself is a great representation of Chi-town.

Even though the controls are SEVERELY lacking, I too am having a blast. It's a nice twist on the GTA formula. I'll come back after I do some actual missions and post my thoughts. That is if I can stop dicking around...

Oh, is this thread going to be like the Dishonored thread where spoilers don't matter? So far I don't care about the story and they look to be telegraphing where it's going.

The strange virtual reality games are my favorite part so far. The dealer games and street games both are fun. And as I knew would happen, I'm dicking around and haven't touched the story.

The only negatives for me so far are the last gen graphics and mediocre controls.

I'd say put spoilers in tags for now. I don't imagine there will be a lot of talk about the story anyway, but I still like to be surprised by it.

I think the controls are actually pretty solid on foot. What aren't you liking there spiddy? I really like the recent-Splinter Cell style cover system. Driving isn't very good though.

Causing blackouts is pretty amazing. And busting a steam pipe to take out someone tailing you is great as well.

On foot it feels a little too automated and clunky with a slow z-axis (I haven't checked the control options yet. Having too much fun). The stealth mechanics are a little too simplified. Don't get me wrong, I thing this game is fun as hell; It just doesn't feel as good as Black Flag or inFamous. The camera gets funky sometimes too. What's crazy about the cars is how the motorcycle is the best controlling bike of any open-world game I've played.

Ah alright. I think Infamous does control better. The missions design especially for side missions is so much better in Watch Dogs, so I think so far I like Watch Dogs more than Infamous overall. I'm not big on AC's controls personally.

Yeah, I don't much care for AC controls either and I also totally agree that the content in this game so far is heads and tails superior to inFamous.

One problem I've noticed is how quickly this game gets my PS4 sounding like a jet engine. I ran into this with AC but not as quickly. And inFamous it rarely happened. My guess is that the dynamic rendering system is more varied and complex. I mean, there really wasn't much variety in inFamous or AC. I can also back that up by confirming that there is tremendous pop-up while in a vehicle. It's not a gamebreaker though.

@Trip: I installed the mobile app and added you so we can figure out whatever the hell that is about. Text me, post here, or figure it out if you see me playing. The brief description made it sound like we can fuck with each other while getting equal bonuses. /shrug

I tried to add Killa but it seems he doesn't have a Uplay account.

*edit* OK, so I played a quick match and, if I was playing another human, it was fun. Basically a tower defense game where you're a helicopter trying to prevent a player from hitting check points. So, yeah, the gist is just fucking with people. If we can do that and voicechat it would most likely make for short, but epic, smack talk sessions.

*edit 2* The app kills a phone battery and overheats the internals so don't play 5 games in a row if you aren't near a power source or in a moderate climate. It also requires uplay and a browser (like dolphin or whatever you guys use) to log into PSN.

So my recommendation for the app is a hell yes if you are tech savvy. If not, in a Bob Deniro voice, "Ehhhh, not so much".

Maybe I will look into the app.

One thing I noticed is that I can play online sort of even though I don't currently have PS Plus? Well at least I have been invaded a few times with the hacking game. Weird. I'm not complaining though. I will probably re-up my PS+ soon anyway.

Thats strange. I've had a uplay account for a while now. I will check in on it and see if maybe I can add you.

The only bonus I noticed for an all stealth takedown of a gang hideout was the extra 15xp points per takedown. Which isn't really worth it.

I played through a mission Splinter Cell style (no weapons or alerts or gadgets) and, while rewarding in itself for bragging rights, it wasn't very fun. Tense, yes. But it doesn't compare to using gadgets and hacking.

I really love the gang hideout missions. They feel like the Far Cry 3's outposts. Lots of to ways to handle them. I've done them all kinds of ways so far. One time I got a little frustrated and just said fuck it and whipped out my grenade launcher.

@killa: Have you linked Uplay to the game yet? I really want to start invading you bitches across both mobile and console.

I played so much of this game over the weekend it was impossible to not notice everyone messing with their cellphones today. Myself included. It's become so integrated into every day life I hadn't thought twice about it until now.

You can do so many cool little things with this game. I was behind a wall about 10 feet above two guys in a Gang hideout mission. The target was facing me and another guy was pacing behind. So I fuck with his comms and he makes a fuss. The target turns around to see what the commotion is. I hop over the fence, knock out the target and just haul ass to the right before the other guy recovers from the comm thing. Escape the zone. Mission done. The game is just filled with moments like this.

Im not sure how to do that exactly. I havent messed around with multiplayer stuff at all so its possible I missed that. I did get hacked three times though. Killed two of the bastards that tried to get me. On did a pretty good job of hiding but i caught him last second. The first guys was just terrible and really east to spot. Third person I still have no idea where the hell he was hiding. I looked everywhere and nothing. Got me pretty good. Really wish I could play some more tonight but I need to do some work on my site then head to bed so its back to waiting until my off day thursday most likely.

I've been invaded twice and got within feet of getting the person once. The other time I couldn't find them. I saw someone running and hopped on my bike, chased them down and it was an NPC. That put me outside the zone too. I kind of want to turn it off since I really don't see the fun in it with strangers. For now I'll keep it on to give it a chance.

I am fucking terrible when getting invaded. I'm running around like an idiot... haha. I'm so out of sorts when it happens. I'm just not used to that kind of random multiplayer I guess.

It's basically random chance hide and go seek. The area really affects your success. Just now, I forgot to pause and was invaded while out of the room. I heard the sound came back in and luckily I was in the middle of a street with no bushes or roofs. Found the dude almost immediately after picking up the controller and hit him with my AK. (Well, I hit him point blank in the head with a pistol but it didn't register so I went with an AK and, as EZ-E says, just started sprayin')
