God of War Series Discussion
In here we discuss God of War. Obviously this will include series spoilers. I have some questions I will put up here for people to answer if they choose and we can just discuss other random stuff as well.

Rank the God of War games
1. God of War II
2. God of War I
3. God of War III
haven't played the other ones yet...
Top five (or more if you'd like) bosses in the series
1. Poseidon (God of War III)
2. Cronos
3. Hydra (God of War I)
4. Barbarian King (God of War II)
5.
Favorite weapon besides the blades (I assume that is everyone's actual favorite): There were some from...3...can't...remember them now though. The hades whips were cool but kind of similar to the blades.
Favorite Magic: Swirly Magic Lightning Death from GoW I. That shit was AWESOME.
Best Moment: Cronos...just, yes. Well, maybe not just Cronos but I haven't played them all in a long time and that one pops to mind where I was like "yes...yes...and yes"
Worst Moment: Hades revolving spike climbing tower of fun in God of War I
Most Brutal Kill: Honestly don't remember. I like the ones where he impales things on their own weapons though.
Which game had the best combat? 2?
Which game had the best story? 1
So God of War 3's ending was pretty lame right? Extremely

I would make it lame and hear me out. Trying to take Kratos seriously is...a challenge because he's a shit character. But then if you send him against the Norse gods and just...intensify the rage so he's like "PUNY SNOW GODS, I WILL CRUSH YOU". Then it becomes fun again!

Re: God of War Series Discussion
Here's mine. Was trying to make a couple of these a blog, but couldn't work them out right.
Rank the God of War games
1. God of War 2
2. God of War 3
3. God of War 1
4. Ghost of Sparta
5. Ascension
6. Chains of Olympus
I ended up switching on 3 and 1 just because the gameplay is just so far ahead in 3, dumb ending be damned. GoS is pretty great. Felt bad putting it fourth, but it was rather short and the levels felt cramped. Probably a PSP issue, but its still there. Chains of Olympus is way back from the pack here. I have no idea how people can say this is great. It feels insulting to the actual great games in the series to put it up there with them. I'm hoping Bret will explain why he loves that one in here!
Top five (or more if you'd like) bosses in the series
1. Colossus of Rhodes (if I can just count that whole level as a boss fight which I will)
2. Hercules
3. Hades
4. Cronos
5. Minotaur
Not really sure on the order there, just put them in. Also liked the Sisters of Fate (first two), the 2D Zeus fight, and Thanatos.
Favorite weapon besides the blades (I assume that is everyone's actual favorite): I really don't know, but was kind of curious what others might say here. I pretty much stuck with the blades 98% of the time. The Hades hooks are as good as a pick as any.
Favorite Magic: Twolf totally nailed this one. Poseiden's Rage. So good.
Best Moment: Not really a moment, but even five games later, I really love Pandora's Temple still from the first game.
Worst Moment: Twolf wins again I think. The Hades stage in one was pretty shit. That or the drop off I experienced going from God of War 3 to Chains of Olympus.
Most Brutal Kill: Even though they are angry elephant men, I felt bad doing the split their head open one maybe because I love elephants and maybe because that one was just pretty gross. In fact I just stopped doing that finisher :(Also thought when Kratos continually slammed some dude's head into a door in 2 that was rough.
Which game had the best combat? I guess 3. 2 is right there. Ascension actually does some cool things, but takes a few steps in the wrong direction as well.
Which game had the best story? I'll go with Ghost of Sparta. The background with his brother actually worked for me as opposed to his family.
So God of War 3's ending was pretty lame right? Of course. Why else would I ask this question.
What would you do with this series next? Whole new main character. Some other mythology. I think Egyptian would be cool myself. They'd have to freshen up the gameplay in some ways. Probably need a new core weapon. But keep the scale and general mix of combat, platforming and puzzles.

So apparently Santa Monica Studios has been hit with layoffs. That's incredibly disappointing.

Bosses actually didn't make that big an impression on me other than the Hydra though.
Favorite weapon besides the blades (I assume that is everyone's actual favorite): The spear and shield from Ghost of Sparta. Almost used that as much as the blades
Favorite Magic: Poseiden's Rage
Best Moment: Anything that involves Kratos sticking his blade into some huge enemy then swinging around.
Worst Moment: I'm putting two here because there's a good/bad one and a plain bad one. Good/bad one is Kratos comforting Pandora while holding Helios' head which he ripped off earlier. Bad/bad is that bit from Ascension where that prison's torn off with that horrible checkpoint system making you watch the same cinematic crap over again then fight in a cramped room with an awful camera.
Most Brutal Kill: Helios
Which game had the best combat? GoS, but 3 is pretty close
Which game had the best story? GoS
So God of War 3's ending was pretty lame right? (In my best Sterling Archer voice) Well obviously
What would you do with this series next?
Taking this literally, I'd have Kratos fight legendary Pokemon. Ho-Oh, Dialga, Zekrom, Groudon, Rayquaza, (just examples so Trip can look these up and see how right I am) and everyone else. These guys can range from decent sized to fucking enormous, they have insanely cool powers, and, I mean, come on. Kratos vs Pokemon gods. I know it can never exist, but that's still what I'd do with it.
Being realistic, I like both Trip and T-Wolf's ideas with a little tweaking. Taking on a new mythology with a new main character could be really cool, but I think Aztec or Chinese gods and creatures would be a better fit for the series. Egypt just isn't as bloody as these, especially Aztec, but it could offer some cool things.
I like T-Wolf's idea of Kratos taking on different gods in a really stupid way, but don't think it should limit itself to one mythology. Throw in Hindu, Egypt, early American, China, and Japan with them and let it get really stupid. Speaking of which Hindu could be really cool just for the idea of being able to have six arms with a blade at the end of each.
1. Ghost of Sparta
2. 1
3. 3
4. 2
5. Chains of Olympus
6. Ascension

I just read that it was Stig's new IP that got cancelled too. Bummer.BretBaber wrote:So apparently Santa Monica Studios has been hit with layoffs. That's incredibly disappointing.
Re: God of War Series Discussion
I figured that would be the one getting the axe. When I read articles about it, he seemed really pumped and excited for it. That's really disappointing. It also sucks that so many people lose their jobs as well.
