Post by TripOpt55 Tue Dec 31, 2013 9:02 pm

Hey guys. Vote for our 2013 gaming awards here. Everything except the one that says otherwise has to be games that released in 2013. If you want to make a list or pick a few runners up for any of the categories that is fine, but make sure to have a winner in each. You don't have to do a top ten for GotY, but I numbered it for easier copy and pasting for those that do.

List your Top 10 Games of the Year:

Okay go for it. I'll leave voting up for a couple weeks probably in case anyone wants to finish some games before doing their lists. Also feel free to explain your choices or discuss others' choices.

2013 Gaming Awards Empty Re: 2013 Gaming Awards

Post by Captain N Tue Dec 31, 2013 9:52 pm

Let's go then and didn't play much outside of the 3DS and Wii U

List your Top 10 Games of the Year:
1. Super Mario 3D World
2. Pokemon X&Y
3. Wind Waker HD
4. A Link Between Worlds
5. Sonic Lost World
6. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
7. Injustice
8. New Super Luigi U
9.
10.
Honorable Mentions:

Downloadable GotY: Not sure if this counts but New Super Luigi U since it was meant to be dlc/downloadable title.

Handheld GotY: Pokemon X&Y Because if this isn't handheld goty then something is wrong in this world.

Worst GotY:

Best Remake: Wind Waker HD. Anyone want to argue?

Best Singleplayer: Ehh not sure, I guess Pokemon or Mario

Best Cooperative Multiplayer: 3D World is really fun with more people. Me and my bros had a blast.

Best Competitive Multiplayer: Pokemon X&Y Got challenged a few times by passerby trainers and surprised I won with an ingame team. These guys were using really good pokemon too.

Best Overall Multiplayer:

Best New Character:
Worst New Character:
Best Writing:
Best Story: WWHD

Best Voice Acting: I dunno, I guess eithe Injustice because of Kevin Conroy or FoC because of Peter Cullen.

Best Soundtrack: Either WWHD or SM3DWorld

Best Sound Design: Pokemon X&Y They managed to remake/improve some of the Pokemon roars or whatever and that is really neat.

Best Graphics-Technical:
Best Graphics-Artistic: WWHD and Pokemon X&Y
Best Overall Graphics:

Biggest Surprise: WWHD's announcement or Pokemon's. Or Rosalina for Smash Bros and returning for Mario Kart 8.

Biggest Disappointment (could be a game or just something gaming-related): Not sure.

Best Non-2013 Game You Played For the First Time This Year: Transformers Fall of Cybertron. This game exceeded my expectations. I already liked the original but this one is just as good. The game is certainly for the Transformers fans and you can tell alot of love was put into making it. So many references to G1 right here. I had a blast, don't know why I didn't get it last year.

Game You Wish You Played That Came Out in 2013: Anything that I didn't play.

Favorite Level: Anything from 3DWorld, so many to choose from.

Favorite Moment: Undecided, will get back on that.

Worst Moment: Still can't access the eShop to recover my ambassador and eshop games.

Best Boss Fight: Last boss fight in WWHD and 3D World

Game You Played the Most: Pokemon Y. So addictive after all these years.

Platform/system with the Best Software Lineup in 2013: 3DS

Most Overrated Game:

Most Underrated Game:

Best New IP:

Favorite Game to Discuss on the Forum This Year: Injustice

Any other thoughts on 2013 in gaming: Probably one of the best years for gaming. Tons of new games and new hardware. Plus any year is great when Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda come out.

That's all for now, I might be back to modify the list later since there are some games I haven't tried yet.

Game You Played the Most:
Dota 2

List your Top 10 Games of the Year:
1. DOTA 2
2. GTA V
3. Ni No Kuni
4. Pokemon X/Y
5. Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus
6. Assassin's Creed IV
7. Injustice: Gods Among Us
8. Guacamelee!
9. Runner 2
10. Call of Duty: Ghosts

Honorable Mentions: Super Mario 3D World and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, only because I haven't finished them yet. Also, God of War Ascension. That game was fun, despite it being just another God of War

Downloadable GotY: Guacamelee!
Handheld GotY: Pokemon X/Y
Worst GotY: Don't really have one.
Best Remake: Wind Waker HD

Best Singleplayer: DOTA 2... just kidding. GTA V

Best Cooperative Multiplayer: DOTA 2

Best Competitive Multiplayer: DOTA 2

Best Sound Design: Assassin's Creed 4

Best Graphics-Technical: Assassin's Creed 4

Best Graphics-Artistic: Ni No Kuni

Best Overall Graphics: Ni No Kuni

Best Non-2013 Game You Played For the First Time This Year: Borderlands 2

Game You Wish You Played That Came Out in 2013: Saints Row IV

Game You Played the Most: DOTA 2

Most Overrated Game: The Last of Us

Most Underrated Game: God of War Ascension - people shit on this series too much

Best New IP: Guacamelee!

Favorite Game to Discuss on the Forum This Year: Ni No Kuni

Any other thoughts on 2013 in gaming: 2013 proved that if you give me a good multiplayer game, its really all I need. I missed a lot of big titles this year and didn't really get into a lot of those I bought. DOTA 2 basically consumed my whole year bookended by Ni No Kuni and GTAV. And thanks to all you guys on here who played DOTA with me. Some of the most fun gaming nights ever were when we got a full squad of 5 together.

Like I said before, the only think that kept Ni No Kuni off mine was that I only had two characters at the point I stopped playing. I could tell I'd just end up really disliking the combat at best though.

Post by SanAndreasX Fri Jan 03, 2014 1:46 am

List your Top 10 Games of the Year:
1. Ni no Kuni
2. Tales of Xillia
3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
4. Dragon's Crown
5. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
6. Pokemon X/Y
7. Bioshock Infinite
8. The Last of Us
9. Fire Emblem: Awakening
10. Project X-Zone

Honorable Mentions: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, and Earthbound. I actually think they're all awesome, but they're also all remakes. Wind Waker would otherwise be competing with Ni no Kuni for number one. Resogun was great, too, and Contrast was interesting if deeply flawed. I also enjoyed Resident Evil: Revelations and Anarchy Reigns.

Downloadable GotY: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Handheld GotY: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Worst GotY: Can't think of one. All the games I bought this year I enjoyed, but I also avoid certain genres I absolutely hate. Games are too expensive to waste money on bad ones. Smile
Best Remake: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

Best Singleplayer: Ni no Kuni
Best Cooperative Multiplayer: Dragon's Crown
Best Competitive Multiplayer: Anarchy Reigns
Best Overall Multiplayer: Dragon's Crown

Best New Character: Oliver from Ni no Kuni. Also, the Sorceress from Dragon's Crown. XD
Worst New Character: Ravio. He's not quite as annoying as Tingle, but still annoying.
Best Writing: Bioshock Infinite
Best Story: Ni no Kuni

Best Voice Acting: Bioshock Infinite
Best Soundtrack: Ni no Kuni
Best Sound Design: The Last of US

Best Graphics-Technical: The Last of Us
Best Graphics-Artistic: Ni no Kuni
Best Overall Graphics: Ni no Kuni

Biggest Surprise: Earthbound being re-released on Wii U Virtual Console
Biggest Disappointment (could be a game or just something gaming-related): Not being able to download stuff on Christmas day when I got my 3DS and PS4.
Best Non-2013 Game You Played For the First Time This Year: Earthbound
Game You Wish You Played That Came Out in 2013: The Wonderful 101

Favorite Level: Ghost Ship Cove (Dragon's Crown)
Favorite Moment: Ni no Kuni's ending
Worst Moment: The boss fight with the Siren in Bioshock Infinite. That was an annoying, cheap shit-ton of fuck.
Best Boss Fight: Zombie King Tom (Ni no Kuni). Worse nightmare fuel than any survival horror game I've ever played
Game You Played the Most: Ni no Kuni

Platform/system with the Best Software Lineup in 2013: PS3
Most Overrated Game: The Last of Us (yes, it's good, just not my cup of tea. Still glad I played it though).
Most Underrated Game: Ni no Kuni
Best New IP: Ni no Kuni
Favorite Game to Discuss on the Forum This Year: Ni no Kuni
Any other thoughts on 2013 in gaming:

Best year of gaming since the 7th console generation began. As a gaming year, I'd rank it up there with other favorite years of mine like 1994, 1998, and 2006. As you can see, I loved Ni no Kuni. It's my second favorite 7th generation game (first is Valkyria Chronicles). The PS3 in particular had a year that was like the best years of the PS1 and PS2. I hope we get a lot more RPGs this year. The 3DS was also great. I finally got one for Christmas, the gold Zelda 3DS. Really, there were too many awesome games this year, as evidenced by the trouble I had making a top 10. The launches of the PS4 and the Xbox One were rather lackluster, of course, but I think strong console launches are pretty much a thing of the past. That said, my PS4 is a great machine and I'm looking forward to the games coming out for it in 2014... although there are still a lot of PS3 games I'm going to buy.

I like how your's and Greenman's top 10 only share 3 common games, yet you both say this was the best year this gen. Most of my list is different, too, and I also agree. Plus, NGamer says it was a great year when he mostly played on only 2 systems. That's how good it was

Yeah, 2013 was really quite amazing. There was something for almost every taste, it seems. I could have done a top 20 myself. I can't say that about most years in gaming. There have been a few years here and there, 2009 for instance, where I could barely come up with a top 5.

Any other thoughts on 2013 in gaming: It was definitely the year of the Playstation for me, and I don't even own a PS4 yet. Buying a PS3 proved to be the smartest move since I've spent more time on it than any other console. Plenty to catch up on. Plenty more to look forward to.

Another one saying 2013 was awesome. Truly something for everyone, eh?

Looks like the pseudo-Ellen Page in TLOU beat out the real Ellen Page on Trip's list.

LOL at the Xbone reveal being the worst moment, although I imagine that there are a few ex-MS employees that would just as soon forget it. I found it rather entertaining watching Microsoft's guys flail around and repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot

It's even funnier that we're calling 2013 the best year when also calling the other people's top picks overrated. San Andreas saying TLOU, me and Aja calling Ni No Kuni that and it's not exactly Trip's cup of tea either. That's how good it was, no one game dominated, just a bunch of awesome releases.

Then there's me, who when he finally makes a list will more than likely put Ni No Kuni at 1 and The Last of Us at 2.

When I eventually put my list together Ni no Kuni will be far above The Last of Us. That's only because I sucked at it though. I know the game was fantastic and deserves all the praise it gets. I loved the characters and story too.

I didn't get to play a lot of stuff I wanted to play last year because of the sheer volume of games. I didn't play Pikmin 3, SM3DW, or The Wonderful 101. I tend to prioritize certain of my purchases based on the possibility of them becoming incredibly difficult to find later on, particularly if there's a collectors' edition involved.

List your Top 10 Games of the Year:
1. Ni No Kuni - I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a real long time.
2. The Last of Us
3. Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus - Classic R&C action!
4. God of War: Ascension
5. Tearaway (could be higher, haven't finished yet)
6. Killzone: Mercenaries
7. Sly Cooper - Thieves in Time
8. Killzone: Shadow Fall
9. Resogun
10. Fifa 14 - I enjoy it more than a lot on here, but it comes out every year so it feels cheap to add
Honorable Mentions: Grand Theft Auto V, I know it would be super high on this list if I played it, as well as the Dragon Fantasy games that I haven't played, Kingdom Hearts HD, Puppeteer that I have but haven't played yet

Downloadable GotY: Resogun
Handheld GotY: Tearaway
Worst GotY: I don't really buy games that I don't think I'll like, so I pretty much enjoyed the games I played
Best Remake: Windwaker, but I never played it and I can't think of any other remakes. Oh, Kingdom Hearts even though I haven't played them but I'm sure they did a great job on them.

Best Singleplayer: Ni No Kuni
Best Cooperative Multiplayer: Resogun
Best Competitive Multiplayer: Killzone: Shadow Fall
Best Overall Multiplayer: Killzone: Shadow Fall

Best New Character: Oliver, Mr. Drippy
Worst New Character:
Best Writing: The Last of Us
Best Story: tie between Ni No Kuni and The Last of Us (two different games that did their genres perfectly. I can't pick one)

Best Voice Acting: Tie between Ni No Kuni and The Last of Us
Best Soundtrack: Ni No Kuni
Best Sound Design: The Last of Us

Best Graphics-Technical: The Last of Us
Best Graphics-Artistic: Ni No Kuni and Tearaway
Best Overall Graphics: The Last of Us and Ni No Kuni

Biggest Surprise: How fast I beat Ni No Kuni. 60 hour game beat in 3 weeks.
Biggest Disappointment (could be a game or just something gaming-related): Mag servers being shut down.
Best Non-2013 Game You Played For the First Time This Year: Journey and Okami. Both fantastic games, and I need to finish Okami.
Game You Wish You Played That Came Out in 2013: Grand Theft Auto V. I will own you at some point in my life. Also would love to play any Mario games or Zelda games, but I don't own those systems. Puppeteer, but I have it and will play it soon.

Favorite Level: Winter in The Last of Us and winter section of Ni No Kuni
Favorite Moment: Meeting Meowjesty in Ding Dong Dell
Worst Moment: Ni No Kuni ending
Best Boss Fight: Can't think of any, but we will just say something from Ni No Kuni
Game You Played the Most: Ni No Kuni

Platform/system with the Best Software Lineup in 2013:
Most Overrated Game:
Most Underrated Game: Ni No Kuni, Killzone: Shadow Fall (by me included. I think the game is a good game, just different than the Killzone campaigns I have come to love)
Best New IP: Ni No Kuni, Tearaway, The Last of Us
Favorite Game to Discuss on the Forum This Year: Ni No Kuni
Any other thoughts on 2013 in gaming: Sony made a lot of great moves.

2013 Gaming Awards Empty Re: 2013 Gaming Awards

Post by Krubixcube Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:07 am

List your Top 10 Games of the Year (I don't have 10...sorry)
1. The Last of Us
2. Bioshock Infinite
3. Rayman Legends
4. Metro: Last Light (so far)
5. The Stanley Parable
6. ...

Yeah, I wish I played more games FROM 2013 this year but I didn't. They were all good though.

Honorable Mentions: I'm poor. And mostly PS3less.

Downloadable GotY: Stanley Parable
Handheld GotY: ...I only have a DS ;_;
Worst GotY: I try my best not to buy shit games. And this year I didn't so much.
Best Remake: Didn't play one this year actually...

Best Singleplayer: The Last of Us
Best Cooperative Multiplayer: . . .
Best Competitive Multiplayer: . . . I'm not avoiding multiplayer, honest, I'm just POOR.
Best Overall Multiplayer: *cough*

Best New Character: Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite), Bill (the Last of us)
Worst New Character: The main character from Metro. He only talks in loading sequences, it's weird.
Best Writing: The Last of Us
Best Story: The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite are tied. Bioshock Infinite has big, grandiose, overly complicated sci-fi stuff in it which I have a weakness for.

Best Voice Acting: The Last of Us (Troy Baker properly directed is a good thing)
Best Soundtrack: Ni No Kuni (I played the DS one and it has the same soundtrack).
Best Sound Design: The Last of Us, Metro: Last Light

Best Graphics-Technical: The Last of Us
Best Graphics-Artistic: Bioshock: Infinite, Rayman Origins
Best Overall Graphics: The Last of Us and Ni No Kuni

Biggest Surprise: The Last of Us - Yeah, I know, everyone said it woudl be good but I don't react to the hype machine. I went in without watching any trailers, having been disappointed with Uncharted 3, and expecting a QTE filled "cinematic" game and I was surprised with a competent stealth-horror game with wonderful writing and atmosphere.
Biggest Disappointment (could be a game or just something gaming-related): Bioshock Infinite - it's a great game, but it could have been so much more if it would have let you interact with the awesome world htey built in ways that weren't just shooting it.
Best Non-2013 Game You Played For the First Time This Year: Ni No Kuni (DS...still working on it) and The Walking Dead: Season 1.
Game You Wish You Played That Came Out in 2013: The new Zelda game. Need a 3DS though. Oh and Tales of Xillia.

Platform/system with the Best Software Lineup in 2013: PC...I know it's a lame answer but I was not wanting for games this year, I just didn't have the money or the time to get them all.
Most Overrated Game: ...nothing I played?
Most Underrated Game: Metro: Last Light. Despite my frustration with it, I'm sucked into the world, it's got awesome sound design, well executed gameplay.
Best New IP: The Last of Us (that said, I'd like to see it end where it did. It was a good self-contained story)
Favorite Game to Discuss on the Forum This Year: The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite.
Any other thoughts on 2013 in gaming: I actually want a PS4 despite there being no games for it, so good job Sony. It really seems like there's a game for everyone this year. There's games for the action junkies, JRPG fans, WRPG fans, 2D platformers, it was a great year for variety I think which is awesome.

I think you read my wrong. The fact that Ni No Kuni ended was the worst part for me, as in I never wanted the game to end. I was perfectly content with the "ending" of the game.

And I'm pretty sure that Twolf copied and pasted Bret's post to then fill in his own answers and accidentally left that section the same as Bret's.

If anyone hasn't answered yet, maybe try and put together a top ten or five, so then I can tally up and see what our group's top ten would be at least.
