Re: Anticipated Games
The problem (like greenie said) is people don't READ reviews they look at numbers. And it colors their expectations WAY more than it should because people are sheep.

Re: Anticipated Games
A lot of reviews I read now seem to praise a game the whole way through, but they'll give it a lower score. There's just so much inconsistency with them anymore.
The old guys from OPM wrote terrific reviews, and I miss them dearly. I remember there being a couple games I wanted that they gave lower scores to and I thought "I'll like them, it's Squaresoft they don't do wrong." Nope, I didn't (game being Ehgreiz or however it was spelled). Should have listened to those cool cats. I used to read every review whether it was a game I was interested in or not. Maybe someday I'll find someone as awesome as them again.

Re: Anticipated Games
Well thank you Spiddy, I do try to mimic the old EGM days, mostly because those reviews were by far the most compelling video game reviews I've ever read. But the scoring system over there absolutely affect my reviews, since I have to divide it into sections. There were a couple games where I wish I didn't have to score them either, they felt like they should be the exception to the rule. If I ever had to score MGS2 I would go insane.

I really hope Transistor comes to Vita.
OH GOD YES PLEASE.
I keep forgetting about that game then whenever someone mentions it again I get super excited for it again. I didn't even like Bastion, its gameplay just didn't click with me personally, but I remember TotalBiscuit saying it's like Bastion crossed with Frozen Synapse which is a game I adore.
Re: Anticipated Games
You should probably just buy it. Metal Gear is awesome and its only $30. I really hate the way they are splitting this game up, but god dammit, its Metal Gear and its gonna look pretty as hell on the PS4 and I want to play it!

Re: Anticipated Games
What they're doing with Ground Zeroes doesn't bother me too much. A lot of people are saying it's too short but it's seeing as it's not full price I don't see the problem, especially when you also consider it's no doubt gonna have quite a lot of replayability in terms of how to go about the objectives. It's essentially a glorified demo to get a grasp on the sort of direction MGSV is going to be taking that makes it so different from the previous games for £20 which I'm okay with. It's not something I want to see happen more often though, so it is arguably encouraging bad practise, I just think MGS can get away with it because Kojima will get it right.
But seeing as it is meant to be short you should probably stop watching gameplay videos before you know the entire thing, pspiddy.

Re: Anticipated Games
I thought MGS came out tomorrow. Now it comes out the same day as FFX. That's some depressing news. It's like having two delicious pieces of pizza from different places and not knowing which one to chew on. Tuesday next week will be happy and confusing all at once.
I'm going Vita just for portability. If MGS and inFamous weren't coming out this month I might buy PS3 version too, but I'll just wait on that one now.

Play Ground Zeroes but when ever you trigger an alert phase in it switch to FFX and trigger a random encounter.
I went with both since having it on an HD TV is really nice, but i wanted the screenshot feature the vita version has too. Also I need more Vita games.
I probably wont touch X till i platinum X-2 though cause i am a terrible person.

Re: Anticipated Games
You're skipping X and going right to X-2? That's crazy. I loved both games, but I liked X more for the more serious approach and the wider cast of characters. X-2 was great though, even with the poppy light-hearted approach. The biggest travesty it made in my opinion was no Lulu. She was my favorite from X. Paine was good, but I still needed my moogle holding Lulu.

Re: Anticipated Games
I love X-2 but for all my love for it it kind of ruins bits of X's story. Going in dry should help me enjoy it the way I want to better.
Re: Anticipated Games
I love them both, one for the seriousness of the story and the other for the silliness. In the end they both do what I love in role playing games, and that is making level grinding fun.

Re: Anticipated Games
I remember not clicking with X-2. I bought it because people said the job system/battle system was decent. But despite that it was serious characters from a game I liked playing dress up in a story that had the momentum of a slug in a tar pit.
It's one of those games like XII that I'd be willing to give another shot, but my expectations are admittedly low.

Re: Anticipated Games
I think I might have liked the combat and dress sphere system more in X-2, but it has been a while and I can't say that with certainty. I remember the villains you kept encountering in X-2 were always good for a laugh, and I liked that.

Best idea since resolving battles in Risk with another entire game of Risk.
Re: Anticipated Games
I agree, the idea was swell. I'll probably just power through Ground Zeroes since it is so short.

Agreed. I follow 'em on Facebook, it means there's a guaranteed chuckle everyday. I still love how the majority of people haven't picked up on them being parody yet.
Re: Anticipated Games
P4R is the Onion of gaming.
But also like The Onion, some of the stuff they publish is so close to the truth that it's hard to tell what's real and what's parody sometimes.
Their best articles were their review of Dungeon Keeper on iOS (pretty much summed up the general state of free2play/pay2win mobile gaming) and their parody of Gamespot's recent Nintendoom editorial.
The comments sections are indeed as entertaining as you made them out to be.
