Anime Thread
I know this thread doesn't have alot of good history but alot of people don't like anime here. So I thought it would be wise to split this up from the Television thread thing to discuss anime here.

Rewatching Berserk lately...that was a good show. I miss the 90's and early 2000's where they had those awesome shows that had 26 episode story lines...bitchin' music. Good stuff. A lot of the Japanese don't remember them but I do!
All the stuff that's based off themanga in one of those weekly magazines are so...dull (Naruto, One Piece) because they jsut never end or go anywhere.

I think anyone who even just casually watches anime has heard of Cowboy Bebop. I love that series and wish there were more like it. It's perfect for people who wouldn't normally watch anime too, I recommended it to a few people who basically hate anime but they all ended up loving it.
Lately I've been keeping up with Shin Sekai Yori on Crunchyroll, the story has kept me really interested and its nice looking forward to a new episode each week. Other than that I finally got around to watching Madoka Magica. I cried myself to sleep the night I watched the last episode. So.. sad. Haha.

Re: Anime Thread
I remember watching anime on Toonami as a kid and that was when I didn't even know what anime was. All I knew is that the animation and characters put the normal cartoons to shame. I think I watched everything Toonami had like G-Force or Battle of the Planets, I loved that, Big-O, Card Captors, Sailor Moon, I said I watched everything. And DBZ, that show was awesome back in the day.
And yup, Cowboy Bebop was and is awesome. A friend also recommended me Full Metal Alchemist, gonna get to that once I get Netflix back.

Re: Anime Thread
Although i'm a bit of a newbie on Anime, back in the Toonami of 2002-2003 when I was like six or seven years-old (very young, I know), I saw many shows like Dragon Ball (both the original and Z), Yu Yu Hakusho, Cyborg 009, Saint Seiya, Cardcaptor Sakura and some others I don't remember, of course Pokemon, and outside of CN, I watched Digimon (Adventure 1 and 2, Tamers and the one where the kids were the mons). Back in 2008 and 2009, CN used to have Naruto, which I became a fan untill it stopped airing. After that, I kinda lost track of anime, untill I watched Spirited Away in 2011 and thanks to Tv tropes, i'm descovering some series that I want to take a look at.
Right now, I gotta continue Evangelion (left on the 5th episode) and the same goes to Cowboy Bebop and Madoka Magica. From the bunch, Bebop is my favorite so far.

I watch Ah! My Goddess on Netflix whenever it's available. That and Ranma 1/2 are my favorite anime series.
Thanks to Ni no Kuni, I've also been on a bit of a Ghibli kick, with Nausicaa, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke.

I've watched a lot of stuff recently but Fate/Zero probably sticks out the most. Movie-quality animation in that show, seriously. Also, great characters and story... if you can make it passed the extremely talky hour-long first episode.
Baccano is also one of the best I've seen recently, but I don't know how to explain that show. Who the heck could?
I was also incredibly addicted to Evangelion and Haruhi Suzumiya last year. Actually, I'm still addicted to those.

Well cool. I can say I casually watch anime now. I just have a couple more episodes before the movie apparently.

Yeah, I've seen bits of it, and I need to see the rest. An old girlfriend got me into Ghibli films (beyond Princess Mononoke). We watched Nausicaa and Castle in the Sky when I was dating her.
She also got me into Sailor Moon, too, but nobody has a US license for that one anymore. I sure do see a lot of Sailor Moon merchandise though even when you can't find the anime series anymore.

Digimon, well that takes me back, I remember watching that as a kid too. I had toys and cards of them. My favorite tamers or whatever was Tai, Mimi, Joe, Davis, Takato, Takuya and that girl from the kids were the mons that turned to the angel like digimon. I think there was another series called Data Squad, not sure how it is though, haven't seen Digimon since the one where the kids turned into the Digimon themselves.

I loved Digimon so much. I still do, I actually started watching Digimon Tamers on Crunchyroll. Guilmon and Takato are so adorable! After that season I lost interest though. I didn't like it when the kids started turning into the Digimon or whatever. My love for Digimon is still strong though, I imported Digimon re:Digitize for the PSP. Unfortunately when I got to Jijimon's house I couldn't understand what was going on anymore.. and that was maybe 20 minutes into the game

I don't watch it anymore, but I still love Digimon. And yeah, I hear ya, I remember watching that particular series, watched the first 10 or so episodes and didn't watch it anymore.
Not because I didn't like it, but the cable company cut out cable at the time. We got it back and I statred watching it again when I made it to those final episodes. I watched it to the end though.
I watched the series that followed from there which was when the kids turned into the Digimon. I actually liked it, I wasn't sold on it by the commercials on Jetix but said why not?
There are also some Digimon games on the DS and I think theres gonna be a new one on the 3DS.

Re: Anime Thread
me and my gf actually rewatched digimon when we were still in school...it was an awesome experience. We had to watch the bad english dub version too with its horrible translations and bad jokes...made the experience all the better.
Used to live for that show. I remembered when I was little I imagined an alternate story where Matt's (or whatever his Japanese name was) betrayal ended up with him accidentally killing one of the other trainers and then people went off into factions and it was very dramatic.
I was fucked up from a young age as well is what I'm trying to say here...

Haha, saying I lived for the show back then wouldn't be too far off either. Digimon is what drew me into online communities and fan art at the time. I joined an oekaki board and would draw there all day and just chat with all the people. I think I did a ridiculous amount of Gomamon and Ken pictures
Oh and there was that one time a friend and I decided to reenact that soccer game with Davis and Ken, where they first realized Ken was the Digimon Emperor because of the injury on his leg. I'm not too sure why we did it, but I was Ken and my friend did such a perfect job of tripping me I had the same exact giant gash on my leg. It was good times.. Really.
It's awesome talking about my good memories of Digimon right now. It looks like the three of us are about the same age so that explains we have this in common.

Re: Anime Thread
That's pretty awesome chocobot. My friends and I used to re-enact some of the episodes when it first aired, it was pretty sweet. I had those toys that would transform, I think I almost had all the main ones, I did see a Kabuterimon that turned into MegaKabuterimon and never bought it, I still regret not picking it up. My most favorite was Agumon that transformed into WarGreymon, what was cool about it was it's gold like paint, it was sweet. I always did like the main characters the most, I blame Tai and Agumon for being my favorite characters
We were into the cards too, but we didn't know how to play that, I never had alot but had some cool ones. You know what would be strange? That we are supposed to be tamers, which is why we have this in common, weird but awesome!

I can't believe people other than me actually watched Digimon. I had two of the games for Ps1, as well.
So how many people jumped ship the second they decided to have the trainers turn into digimon themselves? I remember my sister and I got up early to catch the season premiere, and we were so pissed when that happened

That is epic about the re-enactment. Please tell me you managed to get a picture of that gash.
Haha, I remember my family was on vacation in New Mexico when Season 2 was premiering and this being before EVERYTHING was easy to find on the Internet I refused to miss it for the world. I must have seemed like such a dork.
Well, not much has changed in that regard.
And yeah, ajapam you were definitely not the only one into Digimon. Fun story, I actually was into the little tamagochi-esque toys before the show. And it was hte first and only time I manged to start a trend for anything in my school when I rolled up with my digimon and got a few kids into battling them. I got angry when my friends were better at it than me though

Re: Anime Thread
Regrettably, I have no pictures from that epic soccer re-enactment. (._.)
I remember being SO hyped for season 2. I don't think I ever missed a new episode of that one haha. I was skeptical of season 3 though, it was difficult for me to accept the change to all new characters. I actually like that season more now than I did back then. Definitely still not interested in anything after that though.
I'm also surprised (and a little excited) to see others so into Digimon here. It was absolutely not cool like Pokemon was at my school. I wouldn't watch it at all for the longest time but then I remember some marathon was on and I was hooked. There was some goofy song for it too, like "beat the heat with digi-beat"... Or something. Yeah, anyway, I atleast told my one friend about it and got her into the show so we could geek out over it together.
I still have some of my Digimon cards but none of my action figures or little beanie plushies. I want a Guilmon plushie (´・_・`)

And I was excited for season 2 as well, it was awesome. Wish I still had some of my toys or atleast the cards, I never had plushes though I ronically I still have all of my original Pokemon cards, some even in semi-new condition, so I'm happy that a part of my childhood still survived.

I was also into Digimon quite a bit when I was very little. I started first with the second Digimon and Tamers, then it was the one where the kids where the mons (I don't remember its name) and then I catched up the first of the Digimon series. In short, those series where part of my childhood and enjoyed almost every minute of them.
Speaking of Digimon, TGWTG member Jesuotaku did a very good review and analysis of the first Digimon here:
