Re: Final Fantasy Thread
You just have to press X when TECHCOPY comes up the guide states thats apparently its not a 100% chance no matter what your timing is though.
You could just wait till you get the airship. Wakka and Brother are some of the best shooters in the game. As you can tell from the first match Wakka is better in raw stats than Tidus but just cant learn Jecht shot and Brother is like that too but he's good on defense as well.
You can recruit Wedge early in the game too hes outside the stadium and has the highest shot score of anyone.
Also Bret I'm pretty sure you're joking but either way you couldnt actually do that since theres a trophy for getting all celestial weapons and you need Wakka's fo that.

All those mini games and nobody mentioned the Chocobo hot and cold game from FF IX. That game was fantastic.

Am I wrong in thinking that VII, VIII, IX, and X were the only games that had mini games? I can't really recall any from the other games.
No, and those were my favorite Final Fantasy games! Coincidence?!?!?! Most definitely.
Glad to hear they did a good job with the HD re-release. When I get more of a handle I'll definitely be picking up a copy. Did they ever release the Japanese voices on PSN a la FFXIII Lightning Returns (despite our best wishes)

VII, IX, and X are my top 3 Final Fantasy games. I thought I loved VIII more than I actually did replaying it the last time. Made a promise to myself to never play it again, but I'm sure I'll break that. VIII has the best overall music in my opinion though, so that's a reason to always replay it.

Have we done the overall FF liking list?
...let's do it again!
I'd say VII, IX, X, VI, IV, V, VIIII (but yes, excellent music), XII, XIII

VII, IX, X,(this is where it gets tough) V, VI, XII, IV, VIII, XIII, I, II, III.
III felt like it had no story, which really set it back.
I've never played XI or XIV so I can't weigh in on those.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
XI was a not-bad MMORPG - I liked it better than World of Warcraft - but it didn't really feel Final Fantasy-esque. Don't know if that's because of the graphics limitations of its time or what.
FFXIV, though, actually feels like an online Final Fantasy game, especially after the A Realm Reborn reboot. The characters look like FF characters, the world looks like a good FF setting, and even the music is more in style with some of the older games. Nobuo Uematsu composed most of the music, which makes it the first game since FFIX that he's been the primary composer instead of just providing one or two theme pieces. I have the PS3 version but lapsed from it. I'm going to get it for PS4 when it comes out, since I think it's one of those games you can upgrade from PS3 to PS4 for free, and start playing it again.

As for III, I like that it is a strange time capsule into the transition to what FF evolved into.
I liked II because of how weird it was. It was like Super Mario Bros 2, Zelda 2, Ultima 2, Castlevania 2. They tried to make it bigger and better and broke the hell out of it in the attempt... but FFII was still my favorite 8-bit Final Fantasy. It also had the best music of the 8-bit Final Fantasy games. It also helped launch the SaGa series which was done by the lead producer on FFII.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
you realize that XII is also a the very top of my list
Seriously though in general i just don't think the PS1 games besides IX really aged that well. Replaying X in HD it really doesnt even feel like a game from last gen (or the gen before last i suppose) I just don't feel that way with VII, and VIII. They feel too old to me. Maybe because they were my first (the first ones I played anyways I didn't beat them till years later like 2006. IX and X were what got me into the series and they were the first i actually finished) Not saying they are bad in the least remember I actually think XIII is good. The only ones i actually think are bad are I, II, and III fuck those II especially.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
The only thing I think that hasn't aged well in VII are the script translations and the characters models. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense, and Barrett says some really stupid shit. The world is still beautiful look at and the backgrounds, but those clunky characters are horrible compared to Final Fantasy IX's super deformed look. If they fixed those two things in a remake and gave me trophies I'd be happy.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I like FFVII...the humor is nice, it was before the series was like "WE MUST TAKE OURSELVES SERIOUSLY." Yeah the translation is a bit wanky but to me that was part of the charm. FFVII is one I've seen played very recently and I think it holds up. VIII didn't, parts of IX didn't.
As for XII...it's a game I'm eager to give another chance, but I can see why people like it. Now that I've played a lot more western style RPGs I think I'd get into it a lot more but we'll see. No PS2 at the moment so that one will have to wait.
Also...I don't mind the super deformed look of IX or VII. It makes it look cartoony but...meh, no issues with that. VII kind of just looks like the old SNES character models. Not to say it's great, or even good, but it doesn't bug me.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I've tried to play IV-IX, but have never been able to finish any of them. So here's my list of the FF games I've completed.
1. XII
2. X
3. XIII
Really though. XII is awesome. I NEED an HD port of that. Right meow.

I'd love an HD port of XII too. All I did was the story, but it seems like there's a lot more to the game than that.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
I though IX's character models were part of it's charm, i digged the artstyle which is probably why i put it so high on my list.
On another note some bad news timing for lightning dodges on the Vita FFX is off might be hard to do there. I don't think its impossible though, but i've experienced difficulties myself.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
VII>VI. Those are the only two I put significant time into. If VI ended at or around the opera but it would be number one, but I really couldn't stand what came next. VII is the only one I beat (thanks to San making me want to give it a second chance). IX I got bored with after you enter that kingdom via airship, XII I haven't put enough time into, and hated III/VIII/XIII (note to self: don't bother with XVIII whenever that happens). The rest I haven't played.
I'm not a fan of the series though, but I will give VII credit: it kept me interested and I have considered replaying it. That said I think there's a good chance X and XII could be #1 if I put significant time into either.

I would swear off every other video game for 1 year in exchange for a HD port of FFXII.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
The next HD port I want is Dragon Quest VIII. That game would look so amazing with an HD remake. I'd gladly take XII though, and would buy it day 1. Role playing games are perfect for handhelds, so if it were to happen I want the Vita approach again.
I find IX to be the most charming of all Final Fantasy games. The characters are so likable, and they have awesome designs. VII had some clunky super deformed looks, if they could just clean them up and make them look as smooth as IX I'd be happy.

Re: Final Fantasy Thread
The only reason I never played XI is because back in the day I didn't have a great online connection, and I didn't really want to pay to play it. If they would have put it out on the PS3 like they'd id with 360, I would have at least attempted the main story just to say I beat it. Back on the PS2 it wasn't possible for me.

For me, it's hard sometimes to want to pay by the month for access to a game. Then, too, while FFXII had MMORPG mechanics it was still a single-player RPG adventure, and that works a lot better for me than a MMO.
FFXIV: ARR, however, is quite good as an online Final Fantasy experience. FFXI wasn't bad, either.

I really want FFXII on Vita. I have a much easier time playing RPGs on portables and have a lot of trouble sticking with something on PS2.
