The paper in the book is extremely thin, nothing like Bradygames strategy guides for Final Fantasy VII, FFX-2, or Kingdom Hearts that I have. I fear that I'll rip it. I'll check out the artwork and get back to you on that as well.

spiddy Strikeback isn't an actual ability i think youre thinking of the Counterattack ones. Evade and Counter, Magic Counter, and Counterattack, but either way you are still remembering things wrong

I think youre thinking of Initiative which you can get a ton of those farming Cactuars. Its like to first strike what Counter is to Evade and Counter.

Now that I've vented, well, nothing really. How you guys have the patience to do this again without a guide is beyond me. I didn't like the shitty design on PS2 and I sure as fuck don't like it now. Whatever, I'm using a guide and not spending another hour and a half on shit camera angles and Buffalo Bill logic.

Yeah, the whole "guess where you are and where you put shit" is waaaay too annoying. Maybe that's why the timing on the arrows is so messed off; "Here, reset 30 times and maybe, possibly not be lost". I just used a walk through and it was still batshit insane. Bet that guy who designed it talks to his feet and tries to bite his shoulder. (Try that and understand what I mean)

I think "Strikeback" was the name of a countering ability in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, so maybe Spids got it from that and got it mixed in with FFX?

Yeah, the temples are my least favorite part of FFX. The rest of the game was great, but the temples were a shit ton of fuck.

In my case, my hair stands on end a bit when I'm getting close to a temple. I get that they wanted to throw a couple of puzzle-based levels into the game, but the temples really break up the pacing of the experience.

I was so glad FFXII didn't have temples in it, let me tell you. That was a huge improvement over FFX right off the bat.

I actually like the temples in concept anyways. Having puzzle based gameplay in areas without combat was a good idea.

Btw you can beat each of the temples twice (except bevelle and Macalania and Besaid are guarded by Dark Aeons) if you do it again after you get the Airship you'll get a bunch of Strength, Magic, HP, MP, Evasion and Agility spheres and a few scenes exploring Tidus's identity and Zanarkand. It is worth it imo. You get a lot of stat spheres for your trouble, but Dark Aeons eeeeeeh.

I agree about the concept of the temples being great. The execution is poor.

I don't even want to think about the Dark Aeons. I'm so under-leveled right now I died once at the airship fight and barely eeked by the second try. I'm no where near the areas on the sphere grid where I want to place the majority of my stat spheres.

It's completely my fault for not grinding in the desert. I got impatient and screwed myself. There's no way I'm loading up a save at this point. Only if things get completely out of hand will I do that. And to be honest, I think my levels are appropriate for the challenge.

The Dark Aeons can drop really fucking good armor though





Killing them with Yojimbo is pretty easy if you got the gil

That's Yuna's Celestial, and its the easiest one to fully awaken. You just need to get all the Aeons

I just fought the second Seymour. My dumbass hit haste on Tidus when he had reflect instead of the intended target, Auron. So I just beat Seymour after I haste'd him. Pretty proud of that in a stupid way.

Also, probably the only save file I need to keep since the lake scene is directly after that battle. So, so awesomely terrible.

@Kay: thanks for the reminder about the phoenix down thing. The moment the battle started I knew what I was confused about during the first fight. You rock.

Is Zombie worth a 4 sphere? I just got Yojimbo and this is the point of the game that's really fuzzy to me. Like, I know continuity-wise what I'm doing, but I can't remember the specifics of grinding and the sphere grid. Example: I can farm 3 and 4 slot weps and armor in the mountains, correct? I hope that's correct since I only farmed a handful in that short Bevelle strip before Seymour. Or can I go back and farm there? Damnit, I'm so confused again.

Oh, I figured out the the firststrike thing: The reason I thought weps with it dropped in the Calm Lands is because, by spiddy logic, the arena is there and the first boss drops return spheres. I think Kay mentioned that, but I'm a self-absorbed asshole who pays zero attention to anyone but myself Tell me not to touch a hot stove and I'll touch it to see if it is hot...

I keep all of my aeons at default. Rarely do I change the name of characters in games. Final Fantasy VII-IX were exceptions, but first play throughs were all original names.

I replace a syllable in the default name with Kay. The MC is always Kaylyn regardless of gender.
