Re: Ni no Kuni discussion

I got the Mad Scientist trophy for doing alchemy. Thank god.

226 creatures tamed right now, and I have some in my roster that I'll be leveling up to bring the number higher. Right now I'm out of sun drops, so trying to get enemies to drop these is somewhat of a bitch right now. The end is in sight!

I was an animal today and got all of my familiars. Now I just need the Solosseum Series trophy and I think the last one is when you beat all of the rifts. Should be a piece of cake.

I'm going to say something that will make greenie FURIOUS: Ni No Kuni is the pokemon game I always wanted.

Once again, you are a terrible judge of my character. Also a terrible judge of what's good combat

Oh trust me, I would be the LAST person to say the combat in Ni No Kuni is good. It would have been better as a Tales-style thing or a turn-based thing. The thing they ahve now (while learnable) is clunky at best. But it's the other aspects I like: being able to see full move sets in the game for all the pokemons, having captures more likely as you get more powerful, having an actual story, quests, side missions.

Pretty much this game with a fixed battle system would be my perfect pokemon game.

It didn't hinder my fun either. I enjoyed every aspect of that game. Getting my characters and familiars to higher levels became addicting, so I probably enjoyed the battles more because of how into leveling up the characters I was.

I kind of approached it the way I did Rogue Galaxy, which was the last game these guys did on PS2, and that worked for me. The only thing I found objectionable about the combat was the facepalm AI, and I can find that in pretty much any RPG out there.

Bad AI but the UI isn't anything to brag about either. Having to run about, cycling through options in real time with the shoulder buttons is clunky. A WRPG style "pause and play" with enemies that didn't just automatically rush at you headlong would probably make for a bit of an easier experience for me. Not to mention hot-keyed special attacks and defense buttons. There's room for improvement.

For Ni no Kuni fans - this isn't quite the same thing as a sequel, but I'm going to check out Fantasy Life for the 3DS, which has Ghibli-esque visuals and is developed by Level-5. Looks like an interesting premise for an RPG. Glad Nintendo is finally bringing it to the US.

I wish they'd make a game for the Vita. Great developer, every game is always a pleasure.

Looking back, Ni No Kuni might be in my Top 5 favorite games of all time. Definitely in the 10 zone. Today was a great day.

It's in my top 10 definitely.

Ni no Kuni 2, Yakuza 0, Valkyria Rising in addition to what we already knew of... lots of great games coming down the pipeline. Can't wait.
