Tried to think of a random question to stir up some discussion. So what new series/IPs that started in the PS3/360/Wii generation would you like to see continue next gen (PS4/Xbox One/Wii U)? And which do you think should maybe just not make the jump forward (or perhaps take the next cycle off)? Maybe we can spin a couple of the positive ones into a wishlist thread of sorts for that sequel. Explaining your choices is always a plus.

Oh yeah PC too. I more meant generation as a timeframe of sorts. But yeah new IP PC games that came out in that 2005 to now range I guess that you'd like to keep going (on consoles or PC). Handhelds could also be worked in but those generations are a little shifted I suppose.

1. Valkyria Chronicles - that was my favorite game of the generation, and I felt it was a major leap forward for SRPGs from the Final Fantasy Tactics template. It isn't likely to happen, I suppose, but hey, I've seen stranger things.
2. Ni no Kuni - Well, maybe. Don't get me wrong, NnK is my second favorite game of the generation, but Ni no Kuni was really fine as a stand-alone one-time game, and Ghibli generally doesn't make sequels. I would like to see Level-5 do a follow-up in the style of Ni no Kuni, perhaps again in collaboration with Studio Ghibli.
3. The Souls series - Unless grave misfortune somehow befalls From Software, which is unlikely given how successful they've been in recent years, I'm 95% sure this series will get a sequel on PS4 and Xbone, and it should. It's a great concept.
4. Bioshock - There's plenty more to be explored along the themes of Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, so yeah.
5. Xenoblade - Nintendo's "X" will be a spiritual successor, if not an outright sequel, to Xenoblade, so this one is covered.
6. Bayonetta - Again, already covered by Nintendo, and rightfully so. It's the best hack-and-slash beat-em-up ever made.
7. The Last of Us - Sony and Naughty Dog will probably do a sequel if they can find a good idea for one, given how critically and commercially successful it was.
8. Resonance of Fate - this was a bit of a sleeper RPG, to say the least, but with a little refinement, it could be built into something quite incredible.

Mass Effect. I really want to see Bioware expand on the ME universe because it is hands down my favorite sci-fi setting. Next gen could give the series more polish without compromising on the leveling/equipment as much as 2 and to a far less extent 3 did. Imagining a ME game with Kotor's stat building and equipment is basically everything I could want from a Bioware RPG. Not to mention they could add the ability to play as a Krogan, Asari, Salarian, Turian, or Quarian MC which I've wanted ever since ME1. The ground work is basically there from ME3 MP, just translate it to SP.

@SanAndreas- Even though I'm not a fan of the Souls games, I hope they don't get hurt by trying to target the Skyrim fanbase and spending more than they should. We could really use more games like that.

Souls Series - I don't see why not
LittleBigPlanet - I'm just imagining what might be possible in this with new hardware
Infamous - The series never blew my mind but they were reliably fun and I think there's still more that can be done with the concept. Yes I know it was already announced
Bioshock...? - I'd rather see another spiritual sequel that changes up the formula a bit more but I wouldn't mind another Bioshock
Mass Effect...? - assuming EA doesn't ruin it
Mirror's Edge - Another one that's already been announced. I'm just hoping it's good. Based on what I've heard, it won't be

Uncharted should skip a generation or appear again late in this one. Or it could just be done
The Last of Us should be a one time thing. DLC sidestories are enough for me
Portal should be done.
Left 4 Dead depends on what Valve would do with a sequel (I can see tons of room to expand on that idea but I get the feeling they're done with it)
I wouldn't mind seeing another Resistance but only if they go totally nuts with it
The Last Guardian should exist next-gen

I'm afraid of that same thing with Mass Effect Aja. Though EA's recent acquisition of Star Wars could be ironically what saves Mass Effect. That series is stronger so milking it won't hurt that brand Maybe they can just focus on quality with ME until it becomes strong enough to be the Star Wars of video games. At least, that's what I hope happens.

It's possible. I think the Ni no Kuni story itself was essentially complete, in fact the White Witch arc was actually extra content beyond what was originally in the story. If they could pull off another, I'm all for it, but again, Ni no Kuni is like any other Studio Ghibli story, and I've never seen a sequel to a Studio Ghibli movie.  It was a complete story that didn't really leave any kind of cliffhanger that needed to be resolved.

But for Ghibli and Level-5 to collaborate on an entirely new project would be fantastic. Yes, it was seven kinds of magic gelling together at the perfect moment. Ah, but if only they could work out some way to form a long-running partnership...

Ohgodyesplease. I haven't played the ones on the PSP yet but when it's just a shot of school kids teenage shit instead of armed soldiers it doesn't leave a good first impression. Valkyria Chronicles is easily in my top 10 of all time.

I really hope not. The ending to TLOU was so good, I wouldn't want it to continue their story, and I don't feel like they can top TLOUs story with another with a set of different characters just set in the same world. I also hope they don't make another Uncharted, TLOU was far superior to Uncharted so it'd just feel like they're downgrading themselves. Given their track record I don't expect them to make another Uncharted either, usually 3 main games in a series, a spin off, sell on the IP.

Personally I'd like to see a proper Devil May Cry game next gen, none of that god awful shit Ninja Theory pumped out. I know it probably wouldn't top the masterpiece that is DMC3 but it might be interesting if they actually get a good dev team on it.

I don't really think we can look at Naughty Dog's track record as an indication of whether they will drop Uncharted next gen. They didn't own Crash when they were bought by Sony so couldn't keep working on it. Jak's sales were declining where as Uncharted's grew over the trilogy. Plus they have two teams now. I imagine we will see more Uncharted and The Last of Us at some point next gen.

Having said that I think I agree with you guys that maybe we shouldn't. Uncharted at the very least needs to take a bit of a break and look into some changes to the formula. I love The Last of Us mechanically, so I would love to see more of that, but like Ranger said it'd have to be new characters and then it'd be hard to match the first's narrative with new characters in that world. Maybe they could work to further the combat style of that game in a new IP. I'd still be excited for new entries in these series regardless though. I think something else would probably be ideal though.

I would have said Infamous should be done, but the new one has really grown on me. I think Resistance should be done. Of course Assassin's Creed should stop any time now.

LittleBigPlanet is a series that might really benefit from a generation jump. The rumors indicate LBP3 is coming to PS3 oddly enough which isn't as appealing. I wish we'd see another PS All-Stars Battle Royale too, but that will obviously never happen. Still hoping for a new LocoRoco one of these days too. That is sort of this gen. I'd welcome a next gen skate, but that seems a bit far-fetched at the moment too. I will think on this some more.

Assassin's Creed really needs a reboot. Stop trying to do everything and mostly focus on stealth and platforming. Give us real platforming controls and a mix between 1 and 2's structure where you're pulling assassinations the whole way without it being overly repetitive. I think it could benefit from next gen tech to give an open world with better mechanics, but considering how Ubisoft treats the series, I think it should end. At least Activision's delivering Call of Duty fans what they want, Ubisoft is just milking it until it's destroyed.

Uncharted they have to do more than deliver more of the same as well. Maybe make it about Sully when he was younger and really improve the mechanics so they're on par with Gears of War's.

If portables count, I would love for Phoenix Wright to keep getting sequels on 3DS. I know we're getting that new one in Fall, but that series just has a perfect structure for them. As long as the writing's still there, I'll never turn down another case.

I don't think Naughty Dog is done with Uncharted, and I really don't want them to be. All three of the games were great in my opinion.

I agree with LBP. It's pretty good what they did with that game, especially since it came out a fair few years ago. But with this generation being all about convenience and speed, I think it's time for ideas like that to really shine.

LBP3 this gen would be a mistake, same with how they're apparently releasing GT6 on PS3. Bad decisions, would be easy sales for the PS4. I really like pspiddy's idea of changing LBP to something more like Animal Crossing, I think that could end up being really cool. Assassin's Creed needs to break for half a gen or so and come back with actual improvements.

Despite how much I hate Max Payne 3 I kinda wouldn't mind seeing a fourth one next gen, mostly to make up from the fact I want a final game to a series I enjoy that isn't terrible. I'd also wouldn't mind seeing another Deus Ex game next gen, although Human Revolution wasn't without its flaws it showed the development team showed more than enough promise with it.

What do you guys mean by make LBP more like Animal Crossing? I've played both, but am just curious in which way you guys mean. Of all the series mentioned in here, a next-gen version of this seems like it could go a lot of ways. Not just sort of a prettier game, but some real big improvements and changes.

I was thinking about it today and if when LittleBigPlanet gets a sequel I think it should make the jump to 3D. Have 2D bits also but that just makes sense to keep the gameplay fresh and give more options in the level editor
