Yeah, I'm really excited for Bayonetta 2 also. Especially after Metal Gear Rising was so damn good, want some more Platinum goodness. Wii U's lineup may not be as strong as PS4, but between that, Wonderful 101, X, Mario, Smash Bros, that Yoshi yarn game, and DKC I'm very happy I got one.

Mario Kart 8 looks surprisingly great from a technical level (for the system obviously). Looks great. Seems to have a lot of alternate paths and shortcuts from what I've watched too. I know you guys have all sworn off Mario Kart for Sega Kart Racing, but I was impressed.

One of the most amazing things about the Sony showing was me and Neph actually getting along and agreeing.
That was the scariest thing. At one point it was just pspiddy and I in the chat agreeing with each other. I had to run to the front window to make sure it wasn't raining fire. Best e3 ever.
Ajapam - I was always excited for Versus just because the game had a different tone and an interesting look. It was showed off originally about the same time as FF13 I believe and from the very beginning both ff12 or ff13 didn't initially really excite me beyond being another final fantasy game, unlike Versus. So even though ff12 stunk (aside from the gameplay) and ff13 stunk all around, Versus has been my last hope for a great final fantasy. Noctus has been my avatar on gamespot forever. So it was really exciting to see it again and see more of the stuff that interested me in the first place. The father son relationship, a love story, interesting looking character (especially that Kefka looking guy), etc, etc. So I haven't forgotten about ff13... I just never forgot about Versus.
I'm not liking the Destiny - Borderlands comparisons. Borderlands is a great idea with mediocre execution. Basically a first person shooter loot grinder. Destiny is an incredible idea, extremely well executed. A first person shooter mmo. I know the distinct is subtle to non-genre fans and it might just look like a much prettier Borderlands, but in my mind Destiny will be providing a much richer experience.

Well I haven't sworn off of Mario Kart, it's just that SASRT pulled it far better than MK did. Though I admit that MK8 looks really good (I first thought it was rendered) and plays good. I'll most likely get it because of local MP, though some game nights would be cool. Same with Smash Bros. Still, I liked Nintendo's E3 more than last years. Mario, WW HD, DKC:TF, X, MK8, and Smash were pretty good announcements, we knew about em, but atleast we got to see them.

I can't seem to find any evidence that Knack is a platformer. Seems like just a brawler. Kind of disappointing.

@Trip- That is disappointing about Knack. Still really want it though. As for MK, I haven't abandoned it, I just want proof they're fixing problems like stupidly annoying power ups and rubber band AI before I buy in. Sonic wasn't perfect, but save one the power ups weren't that bad and the AI was fun to go against. Also had a much more robust single player, which I'd really need from a MK.

What?
I liked FF12 due entirely to the FF11esque gameplay. But the story and characters were pretty much a bust.

Saying a game stunk aside from the GAMEPLAY. Please someone else tell me they see how this warrants a God dammit.

I don't mean to start a FF debate or anything, but a game can have fun gameplay but nothing else redeeming. The same way a game can have awesome story/atmosphere and zero fun gameplay (Heavy Rain... or Skyrim). I don't see how that's controversial. Saying a Mario game stunk aside from the gameplay might be a little silly, but the bread and butter of an rpg is a compelling story, not just gameplay.
I play jrpgs... or used to play jrpgs, for the characters and the story, especially Final Fantasy. And FFX, whether you liked it or not (I loved it), was the last FF to take any sort of crack at a story. Go back to the first FF13 trailers and it was all beautiful visuals and people talking absolute gobbly gook nonsense. It was seriously just gibberish. The FF15 trailer is all characters talking to characters. You can already see relationships and the start of compelling stories.
FF15 gives me hope based on the little bit we've seen so far.

I rewatched The Division walkthrough and now think it looks super cool. It has grown on me. Graphics are actually really good too which I wasn't getting on a stream obviously.
Re: The E3 2013 Discussion Thread
In the words of Sterling Archer: Phrasing. It's not the idea of playing a game for the gameplay and story. It's just the way you phrased it where it felt like this game was bad but had good gameplay. Good gameplay always redeems a game, but not going to get into this since you weren't even going to try and argue that based on your second post.

Re: The E3 2013 Discussion Thread
The Division and Destiny are almost creating a new genre since they are avoiding the title MMO at any cost. I think that greed (trying to give players a reason to always be online and realizing tacked on mp wasn't working) led to the creation of something really awesome that really excites me for the next generation.
I would throw Watch Dogs into that category too. I saw a lot on the mp today and it looked pretty neat (not the stupid tablet stuff). It is very much like Demon's Souls and people ripping off Demon's Souls is always a good thing.

Yeah normally an MMO-ish game would scare me off, but both of those look so good. Need to check out more on Watch Dogs multi.
I still have no faith in Ninja Gaiden Z, but found this intro movie to be pretty great... I don't know why.

The Last Guardian should be on permanent hiatus. Ueda I'm sure has taken off at this point (he was working as a contractor only for Sony last I heard) and the others on his team can move under a director that will actually finish a game.
Dude, I'm so happy with how wrong I was! I love when I'm wrong on these matters
Also, good to see you back Neph!

European PS blog saves the day http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/02/21/knack-a-brand-new-platformer-for-playstation-4/
I'm still going to wait for more footage to see how much platforming there actually is, but if I pick up a Ps4 at launch this will probably be the game I get

I'm with Neph. Final Fantasy XII had a really fun battle system, but the story sucked ass. My favorite thing about Final Fantasy games are the story, and I couldn't even tell you what was going on with that game.

Re: The E3 2013 Discussion Thread
Oh I realize they are calling it a platformer but footage and demo impressions don't seem to support that.
Re: The E3 2013 Discussion Thread
Maybe it's just a higher emphasis on combat. I can't see this thing getting by on that alone. Really hope there's some decent platforming

Re: The E3 2013 Discussion Thread
Oh, that's a bit disappointing. It would be great to have a big 3D platformer as a launch title.
Not sure how much anybody cares about this, but the Ps4 is supposedly around the same size as the Ps3 slim, maybe a bit smaller. Good news for people playing in a dorm room like I'll be

"Oh, you lower folks, you non-genre fans, so unable to appreciate the finer, richer details. Only able to perceive things as 'Like Borderlands' while missing the majestic tapestry that Destiny weaves. From way up here, I'm almost sad about the things you all are missing. My eyes are like that of eagles, spotting the detail and nuance of everything around me that so many are pathetically incapable of. Now if you'll excuse me, I have popular games to dismiss. Mmyes yes... *straighten monocle*"Nephilimi wrote:

Let's not act like the comparison is unwarranted or ridiculous. Also, let's dial back the "extremely well executed" part until the world gets a chance to play it out in the wild. A fetch quest and shoot-everything mission is the same, regardless of how many random online players are doing it with me.

A few new details about some of the FFXV characters!
http://gematsu.com/2013/06/final-fantasy-xv-main-characters-detailed
They already have way more personality than those people in XIII. And I still can't get over how incredibly sexy the entire cast is, I just can't take it *melts*
I would start a thread for FFXV but I'm afraid Square Enix will suddenly keep quiet about it for a year again. The two trailers and information we've had in the past few days feels like a dream, haha. Sorry guys, this game is all I can think about right now. Just give me a few more days for the excitement to calm down. This is the Final Fantasy I have been waiting for so I can't help the fangirling.

You're not alone on that Chocobot, XV was the highlight of E3 by a country mile.
If you MGS fans haven't checked out the extended version of the trailer you really should. Has an extra 2-3 minutes at the start of cutscenes that are really cool.

Any under the radar games at E3 worth checking out? I've watched a lot of demos for big games that caught my eye, but was curious if there was some little stuff I missed.
