Re: Favorite Foods and Drinks

That's OK, I mostly just reply snarkily to people on facebook anyway. I can't believe I finally found another 'merican who dislikes catch up. High five, bro.

I would always go for spicy mustard/relish and then onions or something. Horseradish? Anything that isn't ketchup. Chili though, perfectly good.

I miss Chili Cheese Fries...

Ketchup and mustard on my hot dogs. But hot dogs aren't really a favorite food of mine.

Likewise Trip, but every once and a while I like 'em. Coney dogs are my preferred way to eat them.

I can understand not liking Ketchup, but I think we can all agree that Mayonnaise is by far the most disgusting condiment.

I like certain types of mayo on sandwiches or burgers. I can't believe there are people who dip fries in that stuff though. If I want to kill myself with fries I'll stick with poutine, thank you very much

Just looking at mayo makes me feel sick. Definitely agree with Trip that it's the worst

I actually love mayo. A sandwich isn't a sandwich without it. I'm not so sure about putting mayo on fries though. I have had fries with chipotle mayo... and I suppose that wasn't too bad... I usually eat fries plain or with ranch if its available. I think the worst condiment ever is Miracle Whip. Gross.

I hate ketchup though i'll eat it as long as its not on anything that actually tastes good. E.G. like a burger from McDonalds

I am one of those people who dips fries in mayo though i realize its a terrible idea but it tastes good to me.

A local pizza place has a pizza that has all kinds of different meats on it including lamb, and bison and of course bacon. That was really good.

American mayo makes me unhappy. If it's flavored, like horseradish mayo, or garlic mayo it's OK though. Japanese mayo on the other hand...delicious.

What's your guy's favorite pizza base? Plain old tomato sauce? Pesto? Olive oil?

Barbecue sauce is the king of condiments in my minds. Goes great with almost anything. I also love jerk sauce, has a nice mix of sweet and spicy.

How do you guys like your BBQ sauce? I prefer spicy kinds mostly, but like mesquite every now and then.

A place a mile away from me has the best sauce I've ever tasted. Not spicy or smokey, but really tangy. So delicious, could drink it on its own.

I'm with you on BBQ volvo, tangy is the best. I like a bit of spice as well. Sweet or hickory BBQ sauces aren't my cup of tea. Most people hate it, but as far as bottled BBQ I prefer Open Pit original. So tangy, and when cooked right it thickens up real nice. I could lick the plate when I'm done eating it is so good.

I'd say ketchup is my favorite condiment, mainly because if I don't have it I really don't want fries unless they're really salty. The only other thing I use it on is hash browns, hamburgers, and hot dogs. I also think it is good with the meat from a roast.

As far as mayo goes, I only like a thin layer of it on sandwiches or subs. Helman's mayo is the best, and I agree that miracle whip is sick. If I use it, if there's too much it just makes me want to gag.

One of my favorite condiments that hasn't been mentioned is A1. I fucking love A1. So much that when I was little I convinced myself that the salad I poured it on was better for having it there.

I never have A1 on a steak, but give me a burger and I'm all over that.

I'll do ketchup and BBQ sauce on a lot of stuff. I also like Heinz 57 for beef.

Mayo turns me off big-time because of the egg in it. I cannot stand the taste of eggs. When I was six I got sick from eating an Egg McMuffin at a McDonald's in San Diego that tasted funny to begin with and that was it for me and eggs. Yeah, dumb, I know, don't judge. I don't mind baked goods with eggs in them, but anything that tastes or smells eggy is totally off my list of eatables.

You can call me a fatty if you'd like, but I really like it when we talk about food.

What's a weird family dish that you grew up eating that you think others might not have?

I've got a real weird one. It isn't a family recipe, I believe my mom got it from someone she worked with. You skin some potatoes and just pop them in a boiling pot. Just standard potatoes. Then you take a family size can of Franco American spaghetti and dump the contents out into a roast pan. Add pepper and brown sugar to taste. Then you add a few pork chops into the spaghetti. Bake in the oven for a while. The best part is to take the spaghetti and put it over the potatoes. I loved it as a kid, and I'm sure it sounds gross as fuck, but I remember it being delicious. I ha vent had it in easily 10 years, but I still cook the spaghetti the same way in the oven for about 45 minutes.

So here's something I've been curious on for years: How available is Mexican food to the rest of you guys and how authentic is it? Is it mostly like Chipotle or do you get any of those hole in the wall places with the spinning cone of meat?

I don't really like Mexican food, but my wife loves it.

When we lived in Oklahoma there was Mexican food everywhere. In Maryland there isn't anything Mexican other than Taco Bell, and even those are quite rare and far outnumbered by hamburger, chicken, and seafood restaurants. This is seafood country. Which also sucks for me, because good (yet cheap) steaks are also much harder to find here than in Oklahoma.

Yeah I don't like Mexican food other than some homemade stuff I will eat. So while I can't think of many places around here for it, I'm not sure if that is just because I don't care to know (where as I know a bunch of Italian and Chinese food places). I can't imagine it is anywhere close to as prominent as someone who lives in a border state though or somewhere close.

I've never seen such a high concentration of people who don't like Mexican food...we've got a pretty decent selection from Burrito vans to more "upscale" Southwestern type joints.

I make a good margarita and I make good guac (for when we inevitably have a party)

Spinning cone of meat? Like schwarma, or however it's spelt? There's plenty of places like that in Vancouver.

Not shawarma, I mean in a Mexican place. We have those all over and I have a hard time imagining being there without it

That's odd, I've never seen those in a Mexican joint. It's all about boozing it up and eating salsa and guac out in the frontier over here. But you're in California right? I imagine your brand of Mexican food is way more authentic.
